I'm going to talk about the poems, " Behind Grandmother's House" by Gary Soto and "Queer Theory: According to My Grandmother" by Richard Blanco. These stories have cultural differences. "Behind Grandmother's House" has a cultural difference where the grandmother doesn't put up with anything. I say this because the grandson was having delinquent behavior and the grandmother saw this and did not tolerate it so she punched him! The cultural difference in "Queer Theory: According to My Grandmother" is that this is a family that doesn't tolerate gays; a family completely against it. The grandmother doesn't want her grandson to be gay so she tells him all of these things he can and cannot do. I feel that in the story about the Queer Theory, that the grandmother acts like she knows everything; like she has much more experience with life and this is why she is demanding that her grandson not be gay. In the first poem, there is a value that can be learned. One may learn not to act out uncontrollably because if you do you may be punished for it; and in this case the boy was punched by his grandmother. I cannot relate to any of the poems about grandparents. I don't remember much of them growing up and now when I see them we only briefly talk
