Project #88230 - Psychology

JOURNAL TASK:

Please read the “Critical Controversy” section of your textbook on page 459.  (Is Intelligence Related to Prejudice and Political Beliefs?)

JOURNAL QUESTIONS:

For your journal entry, answer these questions:

  1. What were your initial emotional reactions and thoughts when you read that research findings show that, overall, intelligent people are less prejudiced?
  2. What were your initial emotional reactions and thoughts when you read that research findings show that, overall, socially conservative people are less intelligent?
  3. Do you think the increase we are seeing in intelligence around the world is reflected in (or related to) the decreases we are seeing in prejudice?  Why or why not?
  4. What critical factors (in childhood or adulthood), other than intelligence, might be stronger predictors of prejudice in adulthood?  In other words, what else might be contributing to being or not being prejudice?

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR ANSWER & HOW YOU WILL BE GRADED:

1.  It is obvious that you carefully read the textbook section.  You reference points in the reading, for example. 0-10 POINTS

2. You specifically answer the first question (What were your initial emotional reactions and thoughts when you read that research findings show that, overall, intelligent people are less prejudiced?), giving an articulate and complete explanation of your answer.  0-5 POINTS

3.  You specifically answer the second question (What were your initial emotional reactions and thoughts when you read that research findings show that, overall, socially conservative people are less intelligence?), giving an articulate and complete explanation of your answer.  0-5 POINTS

4.  You specifically answer the third question (Do you think the increase we are seeing in intelligence around the world is reflected in (or related to) the decreases we are seeing in prejudice?  Why or why not?), giving an articulate and complete explanation of your answer, and referring to the information in the reading.   0-10 POINTS

5.  You specifically answer the fourth question (What critical factors (in childhood or adulthood), other than intelligence, might be stronger predictors of prejudice in adulthood?  In other words, what else might be contributing to being or not being prejudice?), giving an articulate and complete explanation of your answer, and referring to the information in the reading.   0-10 POINTS

6.  You use correct and formal grammar/punctuation/spelling/word usage/readability.  This is a scholastic assignment, not an email or text message.  Proof your work by re-reading it at least once for grammar, once for punctuation, and a third time for content and organization. 0-10 points

7.  Word Minimum: 500.  You will lose 3 points for every 50 words under the word minimum of 500 words.  No maximum.

8.  Please include a word count after your answer. You will lose 2 points if word count is not included.

9.  Word count is correct.  Please count only your answer, not the title, repeating of the question, etc.  If you inflate your word count, you will lose 10 points.

TOTAL JOURNAL POINTS = 50 (50 POINTS = 100%)

HINT FOR SUCCESS:

You are likely to do a better job if you organize your essay style answers into sections based on the grading rubric (1., 2., 3a, 3b,…).  Label your essay-style answer by sections reflecting which part of the question you are answering in that section.
