    When it comes to handling conflict within a professional environment first and foremost it’s important for the parties involved to clearly distinguish if it is in fact a professional disagreement or simple misunderstanding between the parties before proceeding into conflict resolution. Unfortunately, perception often is the origin of conflict. So it’s important the parties are able to clearly understand the issue at hand. Once the parties involved are able to understand the issue at hand steps towards conflict resolution or negotiation should take place. It’s best to try to come to win/win agreement to ensure the issue dissipates (Reece, 2014).

 

When conflict arises within the workplace it can create tension within the entire environment. Because conflict has a tendency to grow and fester it’s important that actions are taken to resolve the issues sooner than later. There are numerous resources that can be utilized such as, mediation, labor union representatives, and collective bargaining to neutralize conflicts within a professional setting. It’s important that management be aware of these tools and ensure they make every effort to foster and cohesive and fair work environment for their employees.

Hello Class,

 

This video was based around a conflict or more of a mild disturbance than a conflict however, it caused a scene and required the manager to get involved. All conflicts are not necessarily knock out drag out fights or arguments. A simple misunderstanding can turn into a conflict or and sudden interruption could as well. From a leaders stand point you would have to assess the situation, gather all of the facts, be an active listener and do not be so quick to make any decisions until all of the facts have been analyzed. I have personally been involved in such conflicts where the leadership did not get all of the details and ended up trying to punish a Soldier that was not guilty of anything at all. Luckily I was around to interject and they got mad at me instead. At least my Soldier did not get into any trouble, I was doing my job by taking care of my Soldier. In the case of the musician speaking out of line, I heard the side of the managers however, I did not get to hear the side of the musician himself it honestly did not paint a clear picture for me why he did what he did. Maybe he should have practiced more self control but maybe he had a set schedule that he had to stick to. The facts were not there but I think the manager handled it well. By giving him the opportunity to defend himself and gave him a second chance actually proved to be more beneficial to the company than just letting him go.
