One of the most important things I have learned this term is how to use citations. I know now that I need to cite not only the direct quotes, but also any ideas that come from specific sources. Microsoft Word makes it easy to keep tract of my sources and formats them correctly for the APA format, which is one less thing I need to worry about as I write my paper.
By spending time preplanning the paper with visual organizers and outlines, makes writing the paper a little easier. The topics and supporting details are already laid out. I just need to write about each topic and include the correct citations. I have also learned great tips for editing and revising my papers. I now look at the big picture first to make sure the topics flow smoothly before worrying about spelling and grammar. When it is time to look at the details of spelling and grammar, reading out loud and reading from the bottom to the top, help me to find any mistakes. Overall, I think this course has improved my writing skills.
#2 (cha mey)
I believe that this class has evolved my writing process by helping me to realize that writing itself is in and of itself a process. Helping to structure and guide my essays and any other form of writing, The process has helped me to understand that writing needs to be planned out and that even though what you place on paper it is not written in stone, especially exploratory and persuasive papers. In fact the process for any paper is ever expanding or a living piece that is dynamic. Revisions help the author to better present the flow of their paper and to take out unneccessary fill and help with precision and concision.
I also believe that the writing process involves the use of citation. In a research paper the ideas that are in that paper will be based on previous research and requires that the supporting evidence be cited and properly credited. This helps to give weight to any paper that is writen. Another change that I have seen in the writing process is the fact of putting opposing viewpoints in a paper lends more weight to ones own argument.
