 Week 3

Question 1 Ethics in Research, Limits of Behaviorism

Listen to this brief review of new research about John B Watson's work with "Little Albert". See text pages 211- 212 (On page 219 of your text ( A History of Modern Psychology 10th edition by Duane Schultz),for background. The podcast is on iTunes.

Surprise! What you thought you knew about that experiment may be way off base. What protections do research participants have today when participating in psychological research? How would that have changed the research on emotional conditioning that Watson carried out? Angry baby

On page 219 of your text ( A History of Modern Psychology 10th edition by Duane Schultz), Watson criticizes Introspection, Structuralism and Functionalism. What are the moral or philosophical implications of Behaviorism, which according to Watson, should not be concerned with such poorly defined concepts as "sensation, perception, emotion, and volition?

create an interesting, interactive dialogue with your classmates. But please remember: Respond with intellectual substance, not just emoting. Being amazed or horrified or morally outraged is NOT an adequate posting!

Freud's work had been misinterpreted in many ways, yet the foundation of psychoanalysis found many adherents in the twentieth century.

Discuss some of the main trends in psychoanalysis following Freud. This video may help: Neo-Freudian Psychology.

Be sure to cite your sources and interact with peers several times throughout the week. Watch video on iTunes for If you Know Nothing About Personality 06 NeoFrudians its about 7:49 mins video
