Project #92604 - Discussion question on United States History I

Very often, presidential candidates make many promises and criticize incumbents for a variety of actions.  However, once these candidates become President, they find that it is much more difficult to hold to the standards that they set as a candidate.  Essentially, they find that they must be more pragmatic as the chief executive and must sacrifice some promises that they made as a candidate.  Ironically, they take the same action that they criticized their predecessor for.  Please discuss how or if this statement holds true for Thomas Jefferson.  Please include a summary of strict and loose construction to the constitution in your answer.  Would you consider yourself a strict or loose constructionist.  Can you identify a modern example of a President who promised something as a candidate and broke that promise as the chief executive.  Please include an example from both a Republican and a Democrat President.

This is the discussion question. You should answer the question after reading chapter 9, 10, and 11 on Out of many: a history of the Americn people (vol I) 8th edition. Also, you have to follow the attached grading rubric to answer this question.
