Project #92951 - The Land Where the Blues Began (Alan Lomax)

In the film, Alan Lomax argues that most modern American popular music comes from the blues--from rap to jazz to rock 'n' roll and R&B.

But the film also shows other forms of musical or rhythmic expression, from a recitation of "the signifying monkey" to fife-and-drum bands.

(Talk about the kind of music you listen to yourself, or even music that your kids listen to (if you have kids).  And answer the following questions-

Is Lomax right?

Can you find elements of the blues in your favorite music?  Or do you think it comes from a different tradition entirely?)
