For each of the following two (2) passages, suggest another emerging leadership theory for that might better guide an analysis of Nooyi and the top leadership team's approach to resolving the scandals and ill-will in India. Make sure to provide a rationale for the theory as guide to enacting Nooyi's leadership agenda.

Passage 1

Scharmer gives the reason to our attempts to deal with challenges fail, “The cause of our collective failure is that we are blind to the deeper dimension of leadership and transformational change” (Scharmer, 2008, pg.1). The whole article talks about the blind spot. Several companies have this. I believe especially the larger companies tend to have more blind spots. PepsiCo is a worldwide company. They are just about successful in every market they have penetrated. It is not every standard of leadership that will work for every culture they are in. There is no universal standard of perfect leadership. With every market you enter you have to give just as much respect to the people and their values. It cannot be stressed enough how important your customers and their opinions and wants are.

PepisoCo in India took the pesticide and water contamination issues lightly initially. It is something that should have been squashed and taken care of the moment it reared its ugly head. Their response was very slow. They waited until they saw their products decreasing in sales rapidly before they decided to act. How can you take something that is harmful to individuals so lightly? The fact that it was just in their market and not in the US would have added insult to injury for some I am sure. The ethical mind could have come greatly in play in their favor in this instance. Ethics is knowing what is wrong and right and making the sound decision based on that knowledge. I am sure it has been a learning experience for the company as a whole. If they ever happen to be faced with something like this in the future I am sure they will act quickly and do what is right for the great good.

Passage 2
I believe in contemporary management because there is no "I" in team. Contemporary leadership is about sharing the recognition of the team’s accomplishments when successful, and collaborating with the team when facing challenges, offering solutions by example as opposed to pressuring others to deliver. I want to be part of a group who are able to create an energy field that attract people, opportunities, and resources that make things happen (Scharmer, 2003).

PepsiCo is a great company and they have put some great effort on remaking the brands image. The PepsiCo company is strongly committed to delivering sustained growth through empowered people acting responsibly and building trust,PepsiCo aspires to be an environmentally and socially responsible company and upholds their commitment with six guiding principles: Take care of the customers and consumers; sell high quality products; always speak the truth; equally balance both short-term and long-term goals; win with both inclusion and diversity, and always respect others and succeed as a team. The 5 minds are helpful resource to help Pepsico succeed and innovate their company.

Part II

This assessment provides an opportunity to analyze relevant leadership concerns for an increasingly global future and commit to an emerging leadership theory that is appropriate to guide enactment of the leadership agenda.

What you create in this assignment is the starting point for the Leadership Development Plan project. Remember that the plan is about you, your career, your firm, and your industry. If your company or industry is local or national only, think of how it might impact or be impacted by the global environment. The work you completed in the discussions in Units 1 and 2 prepared you to write this assignment. (See blue box in document attached for the work completed from Unit 1)

·       Provide context by defining the shaping and driving forces that impact the development of your new leadership agenda. This should include your awareness of the global impact of your company or your chosen field and its welcoming of a global diversity of ideas and leadership. It should also include what "minds" you most need to develop.

·       Think about how your agenda compares to the predominant leadership model in your field. (Examples of contemporary leadership agendas might include "might makes right," "Americans know better," and "partnering makes a better product.") Evaluate the strength of your own agenda in comparison to other possible agendas. Provide the rationale for one of the emerging leadership theories as a guide for your leadership agenda.

·       Plan on writing five pages of narrative.

Throughout the course, you will write sections of the Leadership Development Plan that will culminate in Units 5 and 6. In Unit 5, you will submit your completed plan, and in Unit 6 you will record highlights of your plan with accompanying PowerPoint slides in Adobe Connect.
