Project #94840 - PERSONAL HEALTH

Answer each question at least 100 words. So total of 2 questions is 200 words, then I will give you my classmate answer and you have to respond to 2 answer for each question at least 25 words so the total is 100 words for 2 question.

The file is the chapter for each question and their is an assessment you can look at to be able to answer question 1

QUESTION 1:

Complete the assessment “What Are Your Cancer Risks?” on page 673-674 in the Student Workbook pages at the end of the textbook. Do your cancer risks match your self-perception of your risks? Did the self-assessment identify cancer risks of which you were unaware? After reading this chapter, develop a list of things you could do to reduce your cancer risks. If you do not feel comfortable sharing your information, you may do this for someone you know or a fictitious person (i.e. TV show character).

Must be at least 100 words, single-spaced. Respond to 2 other discussion posts from your peers with at least 25 words each

Here is 2 answer for each question. You will need to respond these question at least 25 words for each. You can look at this for an example to answer my question.

Respond 1: When I was taking the assessment, I was sure that it would show that I did not have that many cancer risks because my family history does not contain any risk of cancer. After reading the chapter and taking the risk assessment, I was surprised to know that peanuts, grains, seeds and corns are Aflatoxins that can cause cancer.

To be honest, before reading this chapter I was embarrassingly uneducated about the risk factors for cancer. Besides the obvious smoking causes cancer, my cancer risk factor knowledge was not extensive. That is something that I was excited to learn because cancer risks should be on everyone’s mind whether you have cancer risks or not. I think one issue that today’s society should really pay attention to is the nitrates in food that can cause stomach cancer. Skin cancer has seemed to be more prevalent in the last ten years and I need to make sure that I am wearing sunscreen and protecting from the sun. This is something I try to do, but I need to be more conscious of in the future.

Respond 2: Before completing this survey in the book I knew about my risk of skin cancer and breast/ovarian cancer. My grandmother had ovarian cancer in her early 30’s and I always knew that I could be at risk. For skin cancer I know I am at risk because I tan a lot during the summer and usually don’t apply sunscreen because I have such a natural dark complexion. Some ways I could reduce my risks is to lose weight, and do my breast exams every week. For prevention of skin cancer I need to start wearing sun screen and be cautious of how much time I spend in the sun.

QUESTION 2. Many strains of bacteria are becoming resistant to the antibiotics used to treat them. One reason for this is that people pressure their healthcare providers for antibiotics when they do not have bacterial illnesses. Also, some people stop taking antibiotics before their physician says they should. Both these situations provide an opportunity for resistant strains of bacteria to develop and replicate. Do you practice either of these behaviors? If so, why? What have you learned in this chapter that may cause you to change those behaviors?

rESPOND 1: Misuse of antibiotics is something I am very guilty of. I will discontinue my medication as soon as I started to feel better and I would take the left over antibiotics if I started to feel bad, even a year later. This can be very dangerous because even if you start to feel better the bacteria could still be in your system and infect you again. When I take the antibiotics without the doctor telling me to I am risking killing off my own bodies bacteria, which is important for immune health. Also taking to many antibiotics can make you resist to antibiotics. So when you actually need antibiotics they won’t be as powerful.

Respond2:

I personally am guilty of not finishing out my prescription medication whenever I am sick. I personally do not like medicine. A lot of medication makes me sick, it makes me nauseous and dizzy. Even when I had two oral surgeries I did not take my prescriptions because in my opinion I would have rather been in some pain than been in some pain and sick. I did read that by not finishing out your prescription you are more liable to get sick again quickly because the bacteria will not fully be gone. I will definitely start finishing my prescriptions now, regardless if it makes me feel uneasy.
