1st students answer :

PART 1: What are the advantages and disadvantages of (i.e., e-mail, virtual meetings, office telephone, cell phone, and text messaging) for use in group decision-making and problem solving

Advantages:

Using technology things to make group decision-making or problem solving is more flexible than schedule a meeting. People could have a group meeting anytime in anywhere. And it lower the cost of making a decision, because there is no place and snakes needed during the meeting.

Disadvantages:

The disadvantages of solve problem through email or text messaging is it easily to make mistakes. Sometimes, it is easy to tap a wrong word when you sending an email. And the wrong word may change the meaning of what you want to express. Therefore, the mistakes are easily be made when you send a email to solve problems.

PART 2: In what ways do you use these technologies and how have they influenced your school, work, or volunteer activities?

If I don’t have time to have a meeting or something emergency happens, I will use these technologies to solve problems. Just like last time when I was sick, I had a group meeting in other class. So my group members and I met on the Skype, and we had everything done during that time.

2nd student answer :

What are the advantages and disadvantages of (i.e., e-mail, virtual meetings, office telephone, cell phone, and text messaging) for use in group decision-making and problem solving

Benefits:

  • Convenient: it is convenient for people who are in different spaces and long distances communications
  • Flexible: it is more flexible for people to reach each other to make a decision or problem solving
  • Relatively time-saving: it is a relatively effective way to save time especially when people cannot able to meet in personal

Drawbacks:

  • Technical issues: network failure, camera issue, and other possible technology problems
  • Communication barriers: misunderstandings, misapprehend
  • Relatively complicated process: especially for an email or cell phone for a group decision-making and problem solving
  • Information stress: According to Derks, D and Bakker, B.A.: “In sum, the quick access to information can have motivational potential for dealing with work, but when there is too much information (especially unrequested) coming your way, this can be a stressful experience of loss of control.”

In what ways do you use these technologies and how have they influenced your school, work, or volunteer activities?

I used the e-mail, text messaging and cell phone a lot for my school, work, and volunteer activities. These ways are convenient and flexible for me to do the basic communications or other relatively significant communications and decision-making. However, I prefer to have a face-to-face meeting for some really important meetings, decision-making, and problem solving.
