1. Travel Time company a large travel agency located in Baltimore, Maryland, wanted to study consumer preferences for its package tours to the East. For the past five years, Travel Time had offered two similarly priced packaged tours to the East that differed only in the places included in the tour. A random sample of five months purchases from the past five years was selected. The number of consumers that purchased the tours during these five month is as follows:

The management of Travel Time needs your assistance to determine whether there is a difference in preference for the two tours.

 

a.     State the null and alternates hypotheses.

b.     What test would you use? Why?

c.      What is the calculated value of the test statistic? Show your calculations.

d.     What is the critical tabled value at the 5 percent significance level?

e.     Would you reject the null hypotheses? Explain

f.      What can the management of Travel Time Company conclude about preferences for the tours?

 

2. Ruby Gem is the owner of two jewellery stores located in Los Angeles and San Francisco. During the past year the San Francisco store had spent a considerable amount on in-store displays as compared to the Los Angeles store. Ruby Gem wants to determine if the in-store displays resulted in increased sales. The average daily sales for a sample of 144 days for the San Francisco and Los Angeles stores were $11.6 million and $9.7 million. (past experience has shown  that  standard deviation in sales for San Francisco store is 11 and standard deviation for Los Angeles stores is 8
