General Instructions: Posted above you will find a file called "Statistical Analysis Data" This file contains the hypotheses, methods and statistical findings for a fictitious study. Using this information you are to write a 3-4 page summary paper of the findings that covers the Results (what your found), Discussion (what it means), and the Conclusion (implications for practice). (Use a similar format to these sections in a journal article). If you are unsure what is included in these sections, please refer to Chapter 30 in your textbook. (3-4 pages excluding references and title page, 12 point font, double spaced, 1" margins)
NOTE: Although discussions sometimes includes a comparison of the results with the previous research work of others, this will NOT be required for this paper.
You may use text, tables, or figures as you see fit to present the data. If you choose to use tables or figures these should each be on a separate page at the end of the paper and do NOT count in the page limitations.
You are expected to follow the standard submission guidelines for this course. No references are required, but may be added at the discretion of the student.
Grading criteria are as follows:
· Results Section (30%)
a. The data should be explained in narrative form including what (of importance) was or was not statistically significant. Write professionally, but be clear enough so that someone with a minimal research background could read your paper and understand it.
b. Any tables or figures should contribute materially to the paper. They are not to be added simply as padding. Their purpose is to summarize, explain and enlighten, not add volume.
c. Be sure to address the hypotheses and whether or not they are accepted or rejected. Use .05 as the alpha (level of significance).
· Discussion (50%)
a. You need to interpret the statistical findings, not just what they are, but what they mean. You must synthesize and explain.
b. What is the clinical significance of the findings and are they important.
c. What are the strengths and limitations of the study?
d. What suggestions do you have for further research?
· Conclusion (20%)
a. Briefly summarize the purpose and findings
b. Briefly restate the meaning of the results for practice.
